General Conference - Conferência Geral
It's time for General Conference! Go and enjoy that. But when it finishes, come back and share your favorite moments, the inspiration you received, what you learned, all of your experiences.

The effect of a mission; O efeito de uma missão
In the October 2008 General Conference, Sister Allred of the Relief Society General Presidency said:
How does your mission still impact your life today?
My mission had a great impact on my life. I learned to rely more on the Lord, to seek the guidance of the Spirit, and to feel an overwhelming love for God’s children. My knowledge of the scriptures and my understanding of the doctrines increased. So did my desire to be obedient and to keep the commandments with exactness. My testimony of the Savior and His infinite Atonement was strengthened. My missionary experiences became part of who and what I am. Missionary work became my passion. It has impacted my life and that of my family more than anything else. She then quoted Elder Holland who said:
"My mission means everything to me 47 years after the fact. There may have been one day in those 47 years that I have not thought of my mission; I’m just not sure what day that would have been."Go Ye Therefore
How does your mission still impact your life today?

Share at least one mission memory.
The first two weeks of my mission were an adjustment. My body ached, I got sunburned, I couldn't understand much, and I missed my comfortable life at home. I do not like change, but everyday during those first two weeks (until mission life felt more normal) I had the strongest sense of relief. I tried to explain it to my sister like this "it is like I was running to catch a bus and I thought that I was going to miss it, but I made it! I made it!" The Spirit made manifest to me that I was in the right place at the right time and I was relieved to be there. It was comforting during that time when I needed it most.

Faith in His Step and a Song in His Heart
In July 2008, Sister Paulsen had an article in both the Ensign and the Liahona about a member in Paraná. You can find the article on the Church Website.
From an e-mail Sister sent out on 24 September 2008:
In case you didn't catch this, in the July Ensign and La Liahona, my article on Paulo Tvuarde of Guarapuava was published. In the Ensign it's "Faith in His Step and a Song in His Heart," 24 - 26 and in the Liahona it's "Fe a Cada Passo e o Cantico no Coracao" (you'll have to imagine Portuguese squiggles), 22 - 24.
But the story alone would not have been as neat without the photographs. Elder John Kendall was the photographer with the addition of one updated foto by Odete Lustoza, wife of the Presidente do Distrito. (Odete also lined Paulo up with his wife, and because of that, there's a little boy Saulo!). Great job Elder Kendall!! (I gave him film and money so that he and his companion could go visit Paulo on his sitio on a P Day and take pictures. I knew that E. Kendall had been a photographer for a newspaper in San Francisco).
It only took six years to publish the article. . . church magazines somehow lost it for awhile and then it was scheduled, then bumped, then re scheduled. Anyway, it was worth waiting for. . . I just found this out, but it went out in 46 languages!! I've heard from a missionary in Peru that he used Paulo's story in church to motivate the members. And a little Primary kid in our ward gave a talk on it. Paulo thought he would never be able to serve a mission because he needed to take care of his mother's sitio. . . and now look, his story is being told by missionaries and others around the world. Paulo finally got his dream of doing missionary work.

Oddee, a website full of real weird things, put up pictures of Iguaçu recently - Poor Niagara! Meet the Iguaçu Falls. I always feel a bit of pride when I see pictures of the falls. Does anyone have any pictures or stories of the falls?
